Wellness Wisdom, One Page at a Time
Dr. Jamie is a firm believer that healing isn’t just hands-on—it’s also about what fills your head and heart between visits. These aren’t just any books; they’re the go-to guides she’s dog-eared, recommended, and raved about to countless patients over the years.
Whether you’re standing in the supplement aisle confused about what to eat, trying to understand your hormones, or just craving some soul-stirring inspiration, this collection has something for you. Consider it your “Aligned for Life Approved” book list—thoughtful reads to nourish your mind, your body, and your bookshelf.

Nutrition
In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan
Michael Pollan has other brilliant books but this one is by far my favorite catch all “where do I start” nutrition book. He breaks it down in an easy way to understand nutrition without any biases of fad diets. If you don’t know where to start, this is it!

Anti Cancer A New Way of Life by Dr. David Servan-Schreiber
In my office we like to joke and call this the Aligned for Life Bible. This book is extremely important not just to people who have survived cancer and want to prevent it, but a great for anyone who is looking for a holistic overall “eat well, move well, think well” lifestyle.

Eat Fat Get Thin by Dr. Mark Hyman
This book is absolutely perfect, except the title. I wish Dr. Hyman named it “Eat Fat, Get Healthy” but who knows if thin sells more books. All of Mark Hyman’s books are great (ie. Pegan Diet, Food Fix (excellent for getting angry over the politics of Big Ag, Big Food and Big Pharma), but this one is by far my favorite of all his books. He is so great at debunking food myths that have caused us more harm than good.

Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz
If you are a female, especially if you currently menstruate, this book should just live on your bedside table. Are you interested in fasting? Working out? This book is life-changing for every female who burned herself out (ME!) trying to be healthy by eating and working out like a man. Dr. Pelz rocks at making it simple to understand hormones and it’s an easy quick guide on what to do based on where you are at in your cycle.

Inspiration
Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek
Honestly, you cannot go wrong with Simon Sinek. His most famous book is “Starts With Why,” which don’t get me wrong, is enjoyable but there is something about “Leaders Eat Last” that just won me over. Maybe it’s how he talks about what he learned from observing the military? All I know is that this book has made me a better leader and it’s my favorite to recommend to other leaders in my community. His interviews on youtube and reels are incredibly eye-opening and inspiring as well.

Option B by Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant
When Nancy Frates, mother of Pete Frates, the origin of the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, recommends a book to you about overcoming adversity, you read it and absorb every word. If you know anyone, or you yourself, has lost someone very close to them, this is the book that will help you get through it. Unexplainable, unexpected grief is one of the hardest events to overcome and this is an incredible guide for that process. Just grab the tissues for the first twenty pages.

Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan
I still have no idea who recommended this book to me, but I will be forever grateful. The last patient who borrowed walked into my office holding it over her heart and said to me “I don’t want to let this go.” This is a great book for anyone who needs a change or just some inspiration for life. This book is about a woman who let’s go of all her earthly possessions and joins an Aboriginal tribe in Australia for a walkabout. Sounds cheesy right? Trust me, it’s worth the read.

“The right book at the right time can shift everything—from your posture to your purpose.”
